Germany has been chosen to host the World Tribology Congress 2030. The German Society for Tribology (GfT) will organize the event in Munich, and the Swiss Tribology Association (SwissTrib) will offer a satellite on tribochemistry and tribocorrosion in Zurich.

The German Society for Tribology is grateful to the ITC Committee for the opportunity to welcome the global tribological community. Hosting ITC’s prestigious World Tribology Congress staged every four years aligns with the strategic plans of GfT and SwissTrib.
This world's leading Tribology Congress will:
- promote the global visibility of science and technology around friction, wear and lubrication
- highlight its positive developments for sustainability and energy efficiency
- boost the future-oriented development of tribology worldwide.

The WTC 2030 aims to combine established tribology topics with forward-looking fields such as AI, superlubricity and defossilisation.

The decision
At its meeting on 20 September 2026, the Executive Committee of the International Tribology Council (ITC) decided to award the WTC 2030 to Germany.
